After witnessing breathtaking giant dust devils in Kadra, Ras Al Khaimah, residents of the UAE are bracing for a shift in weather, with predictions of rainfall and hail in Abu Dhabi starting Thursday, October 24. The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) has issued advisories indicating that varying intensities of rain will affect different areas through Friday, October 25. Residents can expect light to moderate showers, with certain regions potentially experiencing heavy downpours. Dr. Ahmed Habib, a climate expert, explained that the weather changes are due to a combination of moist air from the Arabian Sea and a weak low-pressure system interacting with cooler air masses, leading to convective cloud formation.
In Abu Dhabi, light to moderate rainfall is anticipated, particularly in interior areas where heavier showers may occur. Winds are expected to be moderate to fresh, accompanied by cloud cover. In Al Ain, similar conditions will prevail, with light to moderate rain expected across various locations and a chance of small hailstones. The Al Dhafra region will also see varying rainfall intensity along with fresh winds and potential hail.
Authorities have emphasized the importance of safe driving practices during these adverse weather conditions. Motorists should adhere to speed limits and maintain safe distances from other vehicles to prevent accidents caused by reduced visibility and slippery roads. If conditions worsen significantly, drivers are advised to pull over safely until visibility improves. Additionally, residents are urged to stay away from valleys and low-lying areas prone to flooding during heavy rains.
To discourage risky behavior during storms, authorities have imposed strict penalties for those who venture into flooded areas or obstruct emergency services. Fines can reach up to Dh2,000 for entering dangerous zones, alongside black points on driving records. As the UAE experiences these autumn weather fluctuations, residents are encouraged to stay informed about updates and take necessary precautions against potential hazards.
