Boeing Prioritizes Stability Over Sales at Farnborough Airshow
Ahead of the Farnborough Airshow, Boeing Commercial Airplanes CEO Stephanie Pope clarified that the aerospace giant is shifting its immediate focus away from chasing new aircraft orders. Following a series of well-documented safety and quality control issues earlier this year, the company is doubling down on stabilizing its manufacturing lines. Currently, Boeing is working toward hitting a production target of 47 units per month for the 737 MAX, a milestone sanctioned by the FAA following stringent oversight requirements imposed after recent mid-air emergencies.
While the company’s order backlog remains robust, leadership is emphasizing operational reliability over deal-making at this year’s industry summit. Pope noted that once the 47-plane-per-month rate is achieved, the team will evaluate the feasibility of scaling up to 52 units. For now, the priority at the event is to foster transparency with suppliers and customers, focusing on listening to their concerns and providing updates on product improvements rather than generating headlines with new sales contracts.
