Emirates’ Call for Innovation: The Future of the Boeing 777-9

Wed, Jul 22, 2026(3h ago)Business

Emirates President Tim Clark is publicly setting his sights on receiving Boeing’s long-delayed 777-9 aircraft by the second quarter of 2025. During the Farnborough Airshow, Clark expressed frustration over the project's timeline, noting that the jets were originally slated for delivery back in April 2020. While the US Federal Aviation Administration recently signaled that certification could occur between late 2024 and early 2025, Clark remains skeptical, viewing a 2027 entry into service as a challenging timeline for the airline.

Beyond the immediate delivery struggles, Clark took the opportunity to push major aircraft manufacturers to move past current stagnation. He argued that the aviation industry must show more ambition by consistently investing in cutting-edge technology rather than resting on the completion of existing programs. While other industry leaders are currently advising caution to ensure current aircraft models reach full maturity, Clark is advocating for a bold leap forward, aiming to modernize aviation production standards and push manufacturers toward greater long-term innovation.
