UAE and Canada Finalize Historic Economic Partnership Deal

Sun, Jul 26, 2026(3h ago)Business

The United Arab Emirates and Canada have officially wrapped up negotiations for a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (Cepa), marking a swift and significant milestone in their diplomatic and commercial ties. Finalized during a high-level visit by Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, the UAE Minister of Foreign Trade, to Canada, this deal stands as the fastest negotiation ever completed under the UAE’s Cepa framework. By slashing tariffs and streamlining trade procedures, both nations aim to build upon a 21 percent growth in bilateral trade, which surged to $4.2 billion in 2025.

This strategic partnership is designed to unlock substantial opportunities across vital industries, including aerospace, clean energy, advanced technology, and agri-food. Beyond merely reducing trade barriers, the agreement complements existing investment protections to encourage deeper private sector collaboration. Canadian officials noted that the UAE will serve as a vital commercial gateway for Canadian exports, while the deal itself reinforces the UAE’s broader economic strategy to double its economy to $800 billion by 2031. With this milestone, both countries are set to drive long-term growth, job creation, and enhanced investment in infrastructure projects like data centers and critical minerals.
