Samsung Planning to Expand Foldable Lineup with New Wide-Format Models in 2027

Tue, Aug 18, 2026(6h ago)Business

Following the positive reception of the Galaxy Z Fold 8, which impressed users with its lightweight 201g design and ergonomic, passport-inspired form factor, Samsung appears to be doubling down on its foldable strategy. Reports from South Korean outlet ETNews suggest that the tech giant is currently developing two new wide-format foldable devices slated for a 2027 release. These upcoming models aim to refine the "emotive slim" design philosophy introduced in the Z Fold 8, which prioritized a more comfortable, curved silhouette to improve one-handed usability and portability.

Industry insiders indicate that this expansion will include both a new "Wide Fold" device—characterized by a display that is wider than it is tall when unfolded—and a highly anticipated tri-fold smartphone. By sharing these development plans with key suppliers, Samsung is signaling a significant shift in its product roadmap to cater to evolving consumer needs. While the company has yet to confirm whether these additions will replace or sit alongside a traditional Galaxy Z Fold 9, the move suggests that Samsung is committed to pushing the boundaries of foldable innovation well beyond its current offerings.
