UAE Insurance Sector Hits Record Dh74.8 Billion as Health and Property Demand Surge
The UAE’s insurance industry experienced a remarkable year in 2025, with gross written premiums climbing by 14.9% to reach a total of Dh74.8 billion. This significant growth was largely driven by a robust demand for health, property, and liability coverage. A key catalyst for this uptick was the government’s rollout of mandatory health insurance for private-sector employees and domestic workers, which took effect in January 2025. This initiative not only expanded the sector's reach but also bolstered financial inclusion, with the total number of insurance policies issued across the nation rising to 17.3 million.
While insurers faced a rise in total claims—up 11% to Dh46.2 billion—the industry’s financial health remained strong, with profits jumping to Dh4 billion from Dh2.6 billion the previous year. This improved profitability was largely attributed to savvy investment strategies, as companies grew their invested assets by 13.5% to Dh96.4 billion. Furthermore, the sector demonstrated high levels of stability, ending the year with a solid solvency capital requirement ratio of 199%. With 58 insurance providers currently operating in the market, the UAE’s insurance landscape continues to evolve as a vital and resilient pillar of the national economy.
