Dubai’s DMCC Boosts Lab-Grown Diamond Sector Amid Record Trade Growth

Mon, Aug 31, 2026(2h ago)Business

The Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC) has officially launched a dedicated "Lab-Grown Diamond Vertical," marking a strategic move to treat synthetic diamonds as a distinct economic category rather than just an extension of the natural stone trade. This decision follows a monumental year for the UAE, which saw lab-grown diamond trade volumes soar by 91.5 percent in 2025 to reach 76.9 million carats. With trade values hitting $1.3 billion, it is clear that the sector has transitioned from a niche market into a global industry with significant scalability.

Ahmed Bin Sulayem, CEO of the DMCC, emphasized that the new vertical is designed to foster growth beyond traditional jewelry. By leveraging the material's unique thermal and mechanical properties, the initiative aims to connect producers and investors with high-tech sectors like quantum computing, semiconductors, and aerospace engineering. As the UAE solidifies its position as a global trade hub—evidenced by a record $41.7 billion in total diamond trade this year—this dedicated platform will provide the transparency and specialized infrastructure required to support the next generation of industrial applications.
