Abu Dhabi’s ePointZero to Bolster African Energy Presence with Azura Power Acquisition
Abu Dhabi-based energy investor ePointZero has announced a major expansion into the African market by acquiring a 90 per cent stake in Azura Power Holding Limited. This strategic move, which is currently awaiting regulatory approval, will grant the firm control over three key natural gas assets in Nigeria, Senegal, and Mozambique, totaling 752 megawatts of capacity. Furthermore, the deal provides ePointZero access to a robust development pipeline of over 1.5 gigawatts, covering gas, renewables, and battery storage projects. Under the agreement, founding partner Amaya Capital will retain a 10 per cent minority interest, while ePointZero absorbs the stakes previously held by Actis and Africa50.
This acquisition arrives at a critical time as the demand for electricity across Africa is projected to nearly double by 2040, fueled by rapid urbanization and industrialization. With nearly half of Sub-Saharan Africa still lacking reliable power, ePointZero views this infrastructure investment as a vital contribution to regional economic development. This latest transaction builds on the company's aggressive global growth strategy, following its recent $2.25 billion acquisition of US-based Traverse Midstream Partners. Supported by parent company 2PointZero, this deal underscores a broader commitment to securing long-term assets that address the escalating global need for electrification and industrial energy stability.
