The Council of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) has issued a formal condemnation regarding Iran’s recent series of missile and drone strikes against the UAE and various Gulf nations. During its 237th session, the Council determined that these aggressive actions, which have persisted since early 2026, represent a grave violation of both the UN Charter and the Chicago Convention. By endangering vital international air corridors, these attacks forced numerous countries to implement emergency flight rerouting and airspace closures, causing significant disruptions to the global aviation network and posing a severe risk to civilian passengers.

The resolution, backed by a coalition including Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, and Egypt, highlights a unified international stance against the compromise of sovereign airspace. UAE officials, including Minister Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri, emphasized that the decision sends a powerful message that such breaches of international law will not be tolerated. As the GCAA continues to coordinate efforts to prioritize flight safety, the adoption of this measure reaffirms the collective commitment of the global community to protecting civil aviation from regional military escalations and ensuring the security of civilian infrastructure.
