UAE Poised for Economic Surge as Oil Output Targets 5 Million Barrels by 2029

Mon, Sep 7, 2026(3h ago)Business

Following its departure from OPEC, the UAE is strategically ramping up its oil production, with S&P Global projecting a steady climb toward a capacity of 5 million barrels per day by 2029. This production boost is anticipated to be a major catalyst for the nation’s economy, potentially driving real GDP growth to an average of 6.2% between 2027 and 2029, a significant jump from the 2.4% forecast for 2026. Beyond output gains, this momentum is expected to bolster the country’s fiscal and current account surpluses, reinforcing the UAE’s already robust economic landscape.

The UAE maintains a strong AA/A-1+ credit rating, supported by substantial financial buffers and exceptionally low government debt levels. While S&P Global notes that geopolitical tensions remain a potential risk factor that could impact investor confidence or infrastructure, the country’s proactive, business-friendly policies and tax-efficient environment provide a solid defense against external volatility. As the nation navigates global logistical challenges and regional shipping constraints, its commitment to economic diversification and institutional strength positions it for long-term stability and continued growth.
