Investigation Reveals In-Flight Altercation Between Flydubai Pilots
Saudi authorities have confirmed that an emergency landing of a Dubai-to-Tel Aviv flydubai flight on September 30 was triggered by an in-flight dispute. Preliminary findings from the Saudi Ministry of Interior indicate that the co-pilot physically assaulted the captain during the journey, leaving both crew members injured. The Boeing 737 MAX 8, carrying 174 passengers and eight crew members, was safely diverted to Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz International Airport in Tabuk, where everyone on board received necessary medical and logistical support before eventually continuing their journey.
In the aftermath, UAE officials have launched a formal investigation to determine the circumstances and potential motives behind the mid-air conflict. The UAE Attorney-General has assembled a special prosecution team to coordinate with aviation authorities, emphasizing that Emirati law holds jurisdiction over the incident regardless of the aircraft's location. While the injured captain, identified as Smit Machchhar, is currently in stable condition and recovering well, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs is working to establish whether the altercation was an isolated event or linked to any broader security concerns.
