Dubai Prioritizes Perishable Cargo to Tackle Regional Supply Chain Hurdles
To combat shipping delays and ensure the steady availability of fresh produce, the Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation (PCFC) and Dubai Chambers have launched a new initiative to fast-track perishable food imports. Recognizing that regional maritime disruptions can severely impact the shelf life of fruits and vegetables, authorities have committed to giving these shipments priority berthing at Dubai’s ports. This collaborative effort, supported by a newly formed Joint Follow-up Committee, aims to stabilize local market prices and address trader concerns regarding rising logistical costs and vessel waiting times.
Beyond prioritizing docking schedules, the government is implementing significant customs support to streamline operations. These measures include extended duty suspension periods, the option for installment payments on customs fees, and an 80 percent reduction in certain penalties, all of which have already led to a measurable boost in trade volumes. By fostering direct communication between public entities and private traders, Dubai is reinforcing its logistics infrastructure, ensuring that its status as a vital global food hub remains resilient even when facing external supply chain pressures.
