Sharjah’s Graphene Production Boosts Industrial Potential
Dana Gas and the British firm Levidian have officially launched their inaugural graphene production facility at the Sharjah Graphene Park. Following a remarkably swift four-month development phase, the "LOOP 20" unit is now fully operational and capable of producing over one tonne of high-quality graphene annually. This advanced carbon-based material, prized for its lightweight and flexible properties, is set to revolutionize sectors ranging from electronics and battery manufacturing to high-performance composites.
The project is already looking toward a significant expansion, with plans to scale production capacity to over 10 tonnes per year by the end of 2026. As the initial investment proves its commercial viability, the partnership is exploring a broader roadmap that could see total capital investment rise to approximately $50 million, contingent on market demand and long-term customer agreements. Currently, several local industry leaders are testing Levidian’s graphene, which is produced through a unique microwave plasma process that extracts solid carbon from methane. Company leaders expressed optimism that this disciplined scaling will create lasting value while establishing the UAE as a key hub for advanced material innovation.
