DP World Inks 15-Year Deal to Manage Key Bangladesh Container Terminal
DP World has officially entered into a 15-year concession agreement with the Chittagong Port Authority to manage and operate the New Mooring Container Terminal, along with its associated Overflow Container Yard. Finalized on October 8 under a public-private partnership model, this strategic move aims to overhaul terminal productivity and enhance Bangladesh’s integration into the global trade landscape. While the Chittagong Port Authority retains ownership of the facility, DP World will leverage its extensive international expertise to oversee day-to-day operations, equipment maintenance, and infrastructure upgrades.
This partnership is designed to streamline logistics and eliminate existing bottlenecks that have historically hampered trade flow. By introducing advanced digital solutions and global best practices for berth planning and container management, DP World expects to significantly boost cargo handling capacity. Beyond operational improvements, the collaboration is set to foster economic growth by providing local workers with specialized training and international-standard skills, ultimately positioning Bangladesh as a more competitive player in the regional supply chain and attracting further foreign investment into the nation's manufacturing sector.
