UAE Airlines Adjust Schedules Following Riyadh Airport Security Incident
Major UAE airlines have been forced to revise their flight schedules to Riyadh following a reported missile attack on the Saudi Arabian capital. Both Etihad Airways and flydubai confirmed disruptions on Thursday after Houthi rebels claimed they had targeted King Khalid International Airport with a ballistic missile. While the Saudi-led coalition managed to intercept two incoming projectiles, the resulting security concerns necessitated the temporary closure of the airport, impacting air travel across the region.
Etihad Airways reported that their flight EY555 from Abu Dhabi has faced significant delays, which subsequently hindered the return leg of the journey. Meanwhile, Dubai-based carrier flydubai opted to cancel flights 855 and 856 entirely. Representatives from both airlines have apologized for the inconvenience, emphasizing that passenger safety remains their primary concern. Travelers are urged to monitor airline websites and official communication channels for real-time updates, as the situation remains fluid and further adjustments to flight schedules are possible.
