UAE Secures Top Spot in Regional Economic Freedom Rankings
The United Arab Emirates has solidified its reputation as a leading economic powerhouse, securing the 46th position out of 165 jurisdictions in the latest Economic Freedom of the World report by the Fraser Institute. With an impressive overall score of 7.42, the UAE ranks as the second most economically free nation in both the Gulf and the broader Arab world, trailing only Bahrain. The country particularly excelled in areas like international trade freedom and regulatory efficiency, while also leading the Gulf region in the strength of its legal systems and property rights.
On a global scale, the report highlights that economic freedom has yet to return to pre-pandemic levels, as many governments continue to grapple with the lingering effects of increased spending, higher taxes, and trade barriers implemented after 2020. While Hong Kong continues to hold the top spot globally—followed by economic stalwarts like Switzerland and Singapore—the research clearly demonstrates the tangible benefits of a free market. Data shows that individuals living in the most economically free nations enjoy significantly higher incomes, longer life expectancies, and a better overall quality of life compared to those in the least free regions of the world.
