Massive Flight Cancellations Across Saudi Arabia Following Security Concerns
Saudi Arabia’s aviation sector is currently facing severe disruptions following a series of Houthi attacks on local airports, leading to widespread flight cancellations. According to data from aviation analytics firm Cirium, nearly half of the scheduled departures on Monday—roughly 46.4 per cent—were grounded as airlines scrambled to adjust to the volatile security situation. Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport was particularly hard-hit, reporting an 82 per cent disruption rate, as major carriers including Saudia, Riyadh Air, and international operators like Emirates and Air India suspended services to ensure passenger safety.
While the situation is expected to stabilize slightly in the coming days, significant delays and cancellations are projected to continue into Tuesday. Approximately one-fourth of flights remain suspended for October 13, with Riyadh continuing to bear the brunt of the instability. While many local carriers are showing signs of operational recovery, several international airlines remain heavily impacted. Passengers are strongly advised to check the status of their flights directly with their respective airlines, as the ongoing security concerns continue to force rapid changes to flight schedules across the Kingdom.
