UAE’s Resilience: Why Citi Sees the Nation as a Future Financial Powerhouse
Despite the ongoing instability in the Middle East, the UAE has emerged with increased resilience, positioning itself as a central pillar of the global financial system. Ernesto Torres Cantú, Citi’s Head of International, emphasized that the nation’s rapid ability to adapt to shifting geopolitical realities has proven its strength. Rather than being undermined by regional tensions, the UAE has demonstrated a remarkable capacity to evolve, maintaining its status as a vital hub for global trade flows, even as logistics and supply chain routes have been forced to change.
Citi’s confidence in the region is reflected in its substantial financial backing, with the bank raising $28 billion in the UAE and $75 billion across the Gulf within just the first eight months of 2026. Looking forward, the bank is doubling down on its partnership with the UAE, integrating the nation into its blockchain-based Citi Token Services and actively collaborating on major investment initiatives—including AI, infrastructure, and data centers—that bridge the Gulf and the United States. As global supply chains continue to restructure for greater resilience, Citi views the UAE’s strategic position and commitment to integrating new technologies like AI as clear indicators that the country will remain a preferred destination for international business.
