UAE Aviation Authority Paves the Way for Future Air Taxi Services
The UAE’s General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) is actively preparing for the future of urban transport, recently sending a high-level delegation to California to meet with industry leaders Joby Aviation and Archer Aviation. Led by Eng. Aqeel Al Zarooni, the GCAA team conducted comprehensive workshops focused on airworthiness, safety standards, and operational certification. These site visits are a critical step in ensuring that the ambitious Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) sector can integrate safely and efficiently into the nation’s existing aviation framework.
Both companies are making significant strides toward a commercial launch, with regulatory milestones expected to be finalized by late 2026. Joby Aviation holds an exclusive six-year contract with Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority, while Archer Aviation is working closely with the Abu Dhabi Investment Office, even marking successful test flights in the capital. As both firms continue to prove their technology through piloted missions, the GCAA remains committed to a rigorous oversight process, ensuring that passengers will only take to the skies once every safety protocol and certification requirement has been fully satisfied.
