RBI Finalizes Merger of Emirates NBD Indian Branches with RBL Bank

Sat, Oct 17, 2026(1h ago)Business

The Reserve Bank of India has officially greenlit the merger of Emirates NBD’s Indian operations into RBL Bank, setting a formal completion date of December 1, 2026. Under this sanctioned scheme, all existing branches of the Dubai-based lender within India will transition to operate under the RBL Bank banner. This regulatory approval marks a pivotal step in the consolidation process, authorized under the Banking Regulation Act of 1949.

This integration stems from a massive $2.75 billion capital infusion earlier this year, which saw Emirates NBD acquire a 60% majority stake in RBL Bank. Representing one of the most significant foreign direct investments in the Indian banking landscape, the deal is designed to bolster RBL Bank’s capital reserves and fuel its long-term expansion strategy. While the operational details regarding customer service transitions remain to be clarified, the merger signifies a major milestone for both institutions as they align their Indian business interests.
