Mynt Hits Milestone: Landmark IPO Signals New Era for Philippine Fintech

Tue, Oct 20, 2026(2h ago)Business

The parent company of GCash, Mynt, officially entered the Manila stock market this Tuesday, marking a historic achievement with a nearly $1 billion initial public offering. As the driving force behind the Philippines' most popular digital wallet, Mynt’s public debut is viewed as a pivotal moment for a nation where over 40% of the population still lacks access to traditional banking. With GCash boasting over 40 million active monthly users, this listing is expected to elevate the Philippines’ standing in the regional fintech landscape, transitioning the country from a market previously overlooked by international investors to a key player in the ASEAN digital economy.

The market debut saw Mynt’s shares open slightly above their offer price, a positive sign reinforced by the participation of over 140,000 first-time investors who utilized the GCash app to contribute to the offering. President Ferdinand Marcos praised the move, noting that the broad accessibility for small shareholders provides a much-needed boost to local stock market activity. Backed by heavyweights like Globe Telecom, Ayala, and Alibaba’s Ant Group, Mynt intends to use the $960 million raised to scale its financial products and expand its digital services, ultimately serving as a primary indicator of the Philippines' progress in the modern global financial arena.
