Gold prices in Dubai slip ahead of US inflation data
Gold prices in Dubai saw a slight decline at the start of the week as market participants exercise caution ahead of critical US inflation reports. According to the latest data from the Dubai Jewellery Group, the 24K gold variant opened Monday at Dh530 per gram, marking a decrease from Friday's closing price of Dh533.75. Other categories followed suit, with 22K gold settling at Dh490.75 per gram, while the 21K, 18K, and 14K variants were priced at Dh470.50, Dh403.25, and Dh314.50, respectively. On the global stage, spot gold experienced a 0.53 percent dip, trading at $4,402.4 per ounce.
Market analysts suggest that the current price movement is a reaction to shifting expectations regarding Federal Reserve monetary policy. Experts like Vijay Valecha of Century Financial note that while the potential for interest rate hikes remains a concern, upcoming payroll and inflation data will serve as key catalysts for future price direction. Meanwhile, Simon-Peter Massabni of XS.com views this downturn as a temporary corrective phase rather than the start of a bearish trend. He emphasizes that the gold market continues to be bolstered by ongoing geopolitical uncertainty and a lack of clarity surrounding US interest rates, keeping investor interest in the metal resilient despite the recent volatility.
