Wegovy Oral Medication Hits UAE Market

Thu, Jun 4, 2026(1h ago)UAE

Residents across the UAE will soon have access to the oral version of the weight-loss medication Wegovy, as the first shipment has officially arrived in the country. According to Emil Kongshoj Larsen, an executive vice-president at Novo Nordisk, this rollout represents a significant milestone in how obesity is managed. Rather than viewing weight struggles simply as a matter of willpower, the medical community is increasingly recognizing obesity as a chronic, progressive condition that often necessitates professional intervention alongside traditional diet and exercise routines.

The medication is designed to support patients by mitigating biological hurdles, such as persistent hunger signals and the "food noise" that can make long-term weight management feel overwhelming. By helping to quiet those constant cravings, the drug allows individuals to make healthier nutritional choices more naturally. As the UAE begins integrating this treatment, there is also a push for broader insurance coverage, with experts predicting that obesity care will eventually be managed—and insured—much like diabetes, focusing on long-term health improvements rather than just temporary weight loss.
