Russia and Ukraine Exchange 410 Prisoners in Latest UAE-Brokered Deal

Fri, May 15, 2026(98d ago)UAE

The United Arab Emirates has successfully facilitated another prisoner exchange between Russia and Ukraine, securing the release of 205 captives from each side. This latest operation marks the 23rd time the UAE has mediated such a swap, pushing the total number of individuals returned through their diplomatic channels to 7,101. The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed gratitude toward both nations, noting that this recurring cooperation underscores the deep mutual trust and strong diplomatic ties the Emirates maintains with both Moscow and Kyiv.

Following the exchange, both nations confirmed the safe return of their personnel, with the Russian Defence Ministry noting that its soldiers received support in Belarus prior to the handover. The UAE reiterated its ongoing dedication to de-escalating the humanitarian crisis caused by the conflict, emphasizing its commitment to finding a peaceful resolution. This successful swap follows a period of heightened activity, including a larger deal negotiated earlier this month involving 1,000 soldiers, as international efforts continue to address the profound human impact of the ongoing war.
