Abu Dhabi Police: Diabetic Drivers Urged to Prioritize Safety Amid Hypoglycemia Risks

Fri, May 15, 2026(98d ago)UAE

Abu Dhabi Police recently issued a stern warning regarding road safety, highlighting how sudden health fluctuations, particularly hypoglycemia, can have devastating consequences for motorists. To illustrate the gravity of the situation, the authorities released dashcam footage showing a diabetic driver losing control of his vehicle on a busy four-lane road. The car swerved erratically between lanes before violently colliding with another vehicle, which was subsequently pushed into a roadside fence. This incident serves as a sobering reminder of how rapidly low blood sugar can impair a driver’s concentration and reaction time.

Medical experts define hypoglycemia as a condition marked by dangerously low blood glucose levels, which can be triggered by missed meals, improper medication dosage, or even unexpected physical exertion. The symptoms—ranging from blurred vision and dizziness to intense confusion and trembling—can strike suddenly, stripping a driver of their ability to safely maneuver a vehicle. The police are urging anyone managing diabetes to remain vigilant about their health status before getting behind the wheel to prevent such avoidable and dangerous accidents on UAE roads.
