Dubai Implements Flexible Summer Hours for Government Staff
Dubai has officially brought back its "Our Flexible Summer" initiative, offering government employees more adaptable work schedules to help navigate the intense summer heat. Running from June 29 until September 10, the program allows entities to choose between two models: a shortened daily schedule that includes a half-day on Friday, or a four-day work week that grants staff a full Friday off. Developed by the Dubai Government Human Resources Department, this policy aims to foster a healthier work-life balance, allowing employees to spend more time with their families while ensuring that essential public services continue to run smoothly.
Beyond office-based staff, the UAE is taking significant steps to protect outdoor workers during the peak heat. For the 22nd year, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation has enforced a midday work ban, prohibiting labor under direct sunlight between 12:30 pm and 3:00 pm until September 15. To support the growing delivery sector, the Roads and Transport Authority has also expanded its network of air-conditioned rest areas, adding new locations to ensure couriers have safe havens while on duty. These combined efforts reflect a broader commitment to worker welfare and social wellbeing throughout the challenging summer months.
