Etihad Rail Records Strong Debut as Passenger Demand Surges
The UAE’s national railway network has kicked off its passenger operations with impressive momentum, recording over 1,000 ticket sales on the very first day of bookings. This initial surge highlights the public's excitement as the country prepares for its inaugural inter-emirate train journey connecting Abu Dhabi and Fujairah on June 30. To accommodate this demand, Etihad Rail has streamlined the booking process, allowing travel agents to secure multiple tickets at once, while a specialized team has been appointed to manage the logistics for school trips, corporate groups, and large-scale tourism tours.
Beyond the initial route, the rail authority is already looking toward the future, with plans to introduce tailored fare structures for frequent commuters and students, particularly for upcoming services to Dubai and Sharjah. While current introductory rates between Abu Dhabi and Fujairah are set at a competitive Dh55, the network is prioritizing this specific route to test its capabilities across diverse landscapes, ranging from desert plains to mountain ranges. By focusing on different user needs—leisure travelers for the Fujairah line and business commuters for future routes—Etihad Rail is positioning itself as a cornerstone of the UAE’s evolving transport infrastructure.
