UAE Residents Favor Global Getaways for Summer Vacations

Fri, Jun 26, 2026(11h ago)UAE

As the summer heat intensifies in the UAE, a significant majority of residents are choosing to escape abroad. Recent data from dnata Travel reveals that nine out of ten hotel bookings made by those living in the Emirates are for international destinations. The Maldives remains the top choice for travelers, particularly among families and couples seeking a serene beach retreat, while countries like Thailand, Mauritius, Canada, and Australia round out the top five most sought-after locations for this season.

Travel experts note a clear shift in vacation habits, with residents increasingly favoring longer, immersive trips that blend relaxation with cultural and adventure-filled experiences. While interest in classic tropical getaways remains high, there is a notable rise in interest for long-haul travel to places like Japan and the United States. Furthermore, while international travel dominates the summer plans, a segment of the population continues to opt for domestic staycations, with Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Fujairah remaining the go-to spots for quick, relaxing weekend breaks.
