UAE Summer Camps: Essential Health Advice for Parents

Sat, Jun 27, 2026(3h ago)UAE

As summer camps across the UAE prepare to welcome students, medical experts are issuing a timely reminder for parents to stay vigilant regarding heat-related illnesses and the rapid spread of infections. With temperatures frequently exceeding 45°C, children are particularly vulnerable to dehydration and heat exhaustion, especially when physical exertion is high. Doctors emphasize that the transition between intense outdoor heat and heavily air-conditioned indoor spaces can also trigger respiratory issues. Furthermore, shared facilities like pools and communal play areas create prime environments for skin infections and stomach bugs to circulate, making proactive health measures more important than ever.

To ensure a safe experience, health professionals recommend starting hydration habits at least a week before camp begins, aiming for two to three litres of water daily. Parents should equip children with breathable, light-colored clothing, high-SPF sunscreen, and a well-stocked bag containing personal hygiene items and necessary medications. It is equally critical to monitor children for subtle warning signs such as unusual irritability, headaches, dizziness, or reduced energy levels. If a child shows symptoms of heat exhaustion, they must be moved to a cool area and rehydrated immediately, while signs of heat stroke—such as confusion or loss of consciousness—require urgent medical attention. By staying observant and prepared, families can help children enjoy their summer activities safely.
