Why Expats Are Choosing to Build Long-Term Lives in the UAE

Sat, Jun 27, 2026(1h ago)UAE

Recent research from the UAE Expat Monitor reveals that a staggering 94 per cent of expatriates intend to remain in the country for the long haul. Interestingly, while the allure of a tax-free salary once acted as the primary draw for foreign workers, it has now slipped to the fifth most important reason for staying. Instead, the country's exceptional quality of life and robust career prospects have taken center stage, with 88 per cent of those surveyed highlighting these as their main motivations. Safety and low crime rates also remain a significant pillar of the UAE's appeal, with 87 per cent of residents valuing the peace of mind they experience daily.

Many long-term residents echo these sentiments, noting that while financial incentives were the initial motivation for relocating, the true value of life in the UAE lies in its stability and infrastructure. Whether it is the ability to walk around safely at night or the access to world-class public services, expats are increasingly viewing the Emirates as a permanent home for themselves and their families. This deep-seated confidence is further reflected in the survey’s findings, which show that a significant majority of residents trust the UAE’s leadership and remain optimistic about the nation's future innovation, living standards, and infrastructure compared to their home countries.
