UAE Raises Alarm Over Growing Conflict in Sudan’s El Obeid
The United Arab Emirates has formally voiced its serious alarm regarding the intensifying military conflict across several Sudanese regions, specifically highlighting the situation in El Obeid. With reports of rising civilian casualties and a rapidly deteriorating humanitarian environment, the UAE has called for an immediate halt to hostilities. Emphasizing the sanctity of human life, the government underscored that both warring factions must stop targeting civilian infrastructure and are obligated to facilitate safe passage for those fleeing the violence, while ensuring that essential humanitarian corridors remain accessible for life-saving aid.
Beyond the immediate need for a truce, the UAE remains a strong proponent of international efforts aimed at restoring stability through a civilian-led political framework. By backing initiatives such as the Quad and Quintet’s peace efforts, as well as the recent preparatory dialogues held in Addis Ababa, the Emirates is pushing for a permanent ceasefire. Ultimately, the UAE maintains that a sustainable future for Sudan relies on prioritizing diplomacy and supporting an independent transition that aligns with the Sudanese people's fundamental desire for lasting peace and national security.
