UAE Issues Alert for Rain and Strong Winds This Sunday
The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) has issued an advisory for parts of the UAE as convective clouds are expected to form on Sunday afternoon. Forecasters anticipate rainfall accompanied by fresh to strong winds, with gusts potentially reaching speeds of 45 km/h between 2 pm and 7:30 pm. These conditions are most likely to impact eastern regions, where residents should prepare for reduced visibility and blowing dust as a result of the atmospheric instability caused by a mix of surface low and high-pressure systems.
This weather pattern is consistent with the "Rawayeh" season, a regular summer occurrence where moisture interacts with the region's intense heat to trigger localized, sudden showers. While these brief downpours can provide a temporary respite from the scorching temperatures, they also pose risks such as slippery roads and flash flooding in low-lying areas or wadis. Authorities are urging motorists to remain vigilant, adhere to electronic speed signs, and avoid entering valleys where sudden water surges can occur, even if the rainfall appears short-lived.
