Reckless Driver Faces Jail Time and Heavy Fines in Abu Dhabi

Mon, Jun 29, 2026(3h ago)UAE

An Abu Dhabi motorist has been handed a six-month prison sentence and a total financial penalty of Dh70,000 following a dangerous display of reckless driving. The court found the individual guilty of intentionally swerving his vehicle on a public road, an act that posed a severe threat to both himself and other commuters. Beyond the initial Dh50,000 fine for his conduct, the judge ordered an additional Dh20,000 payment—reflecting the value of the vehicle he was driving, which did not belong to him—and mandated a one-year suspension of his driving license to begin once his jail term concludes.

The prosecution moved quickly to bring the case to trial after law enforcement gathered conclusive evidence, including police reports and clear surveillance footage capturing the defendant's erratic behavior. In light of this ruling, Abu Dhabi authorities have issued a stern reminder to all drivers regarding the importance of traffic safety. Officials emphasized that irresponsible behavior behind the wheel will not be tolerated and will be met with strict legal consequences to ensure the protection of the public and the maintenance of order on UAE roads.
