UAE Health Officials Assert Readiness to Manage Potential Hantavirus Threats

Tue, May 12, 2026(56d ago)UAE

Health authorities in the United Arab Emirates, including the Ministry of Health and Prevention and the NCEMA, have assured the public that the nation is fully equipped to monitor and address emerging health concerns like the Hantavirus. Officials emphasized that the country’s response protocols are strictly aligned with international standards, ensuring that public health security remains a top priority. While the Hantavirus has garnered global attention due to isolated incidents on a cruise ship, UAE authorities are maintaining a vigilant, integrated surveillance system to protect the community from any potential health risks.

Addressing public concerns, the World Health Organization has clarified that the Hantavirus is generally considered a low-risk pathogen, primarily transmitted through contact with infected rodents rather than person-to-person interaction. Medical experts have stressed that the situation is currently under control and does not signal the start of a pandemic, explicitly noting that it bears no resemblance to the spread of Covid-19. In light of this, UAE officials are urging citizens to remain calm and to rely exclusively on verified information from official government sources rather than spreading unconfirmed reports.
