UAE’s NCM Launches Pioneering Agentic AI Assistants for Weather Forecasting
The UAE’s National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) has officially rolled out the country’s first Agentic AI assistants, marking a major milestone in the nation's digital transformation. By integrating advanced autonomous agents into its meteorological operations, the NCM aims to boost its responsiveness to climate events and strengthen its early warning systems. These new digital assistants, named "Al-Rasid" and "Forecaster Assistant," are designed to work alongside human experts by processing massive datasets in real-time. Al-Rasid provides 24/7 monitoring and immediate alerts, while the Forecaster Assistant helps interpret complex global weather models and draft detailed reports, allowing meteorologists to make faster, more informed decisions.
This strategic move is part of a broader roadmap to embed AI across various sectors, including climate services, seismology, and air quality monitoring. Dr. Abdulla Ahmed Al Mandous, Director General of the NCM, emphasized that these tools are intended to serve as "knowledge partners" rather than replacements for human staff. Under a strict governance framework, all AI-generated outputs require human review and final approval, ensuring that technology remains a support tool to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and reliability. By embracing this collaborative approach, the NCM is positioning the UAE at the forefront of global meteorological innovation and proactive disaster preparedness.
