Cycling for a Cause: UAE Team Embarks on Epic 3,333km Journey to Fight Cancer
A group of 15 dedicated cyclists from the UAE has set off on an ambitious 3,333-kilometer journey from Barcelona to Paris, aiming to conquer 54,000 meters of elevation over the course of 25 days. Known as the 'Cycle Against Cancer' team, this diverse group of business leaders and cycling enthusiasts, including figures like Wolfi Hohmann and Jonathan Emery, is riding to raise critical funds for the Al Jalila Foundation. The mission received a powerful boost of support from Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum just before departure, an endorsement that founder Guido De Wilde noted provides immense emotional fuel for the grueling weeks ahead.
The initiative is deeply personal, as many of the riders, including De Wildeâa stage 4 cancer survivorâand author Andrew Hallam, have faced the disease themselves. By pushing their bodies to the absolute limit, the team hopes to mirror the resilience required by cancer patients, proving that a diagnosis does not signify the end of a purposeful life. Every donation collected throughout this strenuous trek will go directly toward supporting patients who struggle to afford treatment, while also advancing vital cancer research in the UAE, turning the riders' physical struggle into a beacon of hope for those currently battling the illness.
