Dubai Metro Enhances Passenger Experience with Massive Escalator Overhaul
Commuters on the Dubai Metro can look forward to a more reliable transit experience, as the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has successfully upgraded 262 escalators across the network. This significant project, which represents over 60 percent of the metro's total escalator inventory, was executed in partnership with Keolis MHI. By focusing on critical components like handrail belts and motor drive systems, the initiative aims to boost safety standards, reduce unexpected mechanical failures, and extend the lifespan of essential station infrastructure.
To ensure that daily commutes remain uninterrupted, the RTA strategically scheduled the refurbishment work during night hours and planned maintenance windows. Dawood Alrais, Director of Rail Maintenance, emphasized that this proactive approach has already resulted in smoother daily operations and enhanced asset reliability. Looking ahead, the RTA plans to continue these upgrades as part of its long-term strategy to maintain world-class infrastructure, further supporting Dubaiâs status as a global leader in smart, sustainable, and passenger-focused urban mobility.
