Sharjah Announces Temporary Traffic Diversions for Etihad Rail Construction

Sat, Jul 4, 2026(45d ago)UAE

Commuters in Sharjah should prepare for upcoming travel adjustments as authorities implement a temporary traffic diversion between University City and the Institutes area. This change is part of the ongoing Etihad Rail Station Access Roads Project and is scheduled to remain in effect from July 4 through August 23, 2026. While such road closures can be inconvenient, many motorists remain optimistic, viewing these short-term disruptions as a necessary step toward achieving a more efficient and seamless transportation network in the future.

This infrastructure development coincides with the highly anticipated launch of the UAE’s national passenger rail service. Following the successful inaugural passenger journey from Fujairah to Abu Dhabi, the full network is set for a phased rollout, with formal operations beginning on September 30, 2026. As excitement builds, travelers can already secure their seats via the official Etihad Rail website or mobile app. With introductory prices starting at Dh55 for Comfort Class, the service has already seen robust demand, signaling a transformative shift in how residents across the Emirates will commute in the coming years.
