UAE Urges Immediate Ceasefire and Expanded Arms Embargo in Sudan
The United Arab Emirates has officially called for an immediate, unconditional ceasefire in Sudan, citing the worsening violence in El Obeid as clear evidence that a military victory is impossible. During an urgent session at the United Nations Human Rights Council, the UAE reaffirmed its firm stance against the ongoing violations of international law by all parties involved, particularly the dangerous targeting of civilians and essential infrastructure. They stressed that the only path to stability is a humanitarian truce that prioritizes the safety and well-being of the Sudanese population.
To further curb the escalating hostilities, the UAE is advocating for a nationwide expansion of the UN arms embargo, which would serve as a critical step toward protecting non-combatants and facilitating the delivery of humanitarian aid. As part of the Sudan Quad, the nation is actively supporting diplomatic initiatives, such as the Berlin Conference, to empower local civilian voices. The UAE maintains that the ultimate goal must be a sovereign, civilian-led political process that remains free from the influence of warring factions and extremist groups, ensuring that the future of Sudan truly reflects the needs and aspirations of its people.
