Construction Commences on Major Dh140-Million Bridge Project in Sharjah

Tue, Jul 7, 2026(2h ago)UAE

The Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA) has officially kicked off construction on a significant Dh140-million bridge project located at the intersection of Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Street and Maliha Road. Spearheaded under the directives of the Ruler of Sharjah, Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, this infrastructure overhaul is designed to support the emirate’s ongoing urban expansion and rapid population growth. The core of the development features a 500-meter-long, three-lane overpass capable of handling 4,000 vehicles per hour, which is expected to slash commute times for motorists by up to nine minutes.

Beyond the overpass, the project includes the construction of 2.5 kilometers of surface roads and the widening of Maliha Road to three lanes in each direction, effectively doubling the capacity to 7,000 vehicles per hour per direction. Set to be completed within a year, the initiative aims to streamline traffic flow around University City and the surrounding neighborhoods. To manage the construction phase, the SRTA is working closely with local authorities to implement necessary traffic diversions, ensuring that safety and operational efficiency are maintained while minimizing daily disruptions for commuters.
