UAE Denounces Aggressive Iranian Strike on Qatari Tanker in Hormuz Strait

Wed, Jul 8, 2026(2h ago)UAE

The United Arab Emirates has issued a strong condemnation following an Iranian military action against the Qatari LNG tanker 'Al-Rekayat' as it navigated through the Strait of Hormuz. The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs characterized the strike as a reckless escalation that directly jeopardizes the safety of international maritime traffic. By targeting a commercial vessel, this act poses a significant threat to global energy security and undermines the stability of one of the world’s most critical shipping corridors.

In an official show of support, the UAE emphasized its full solidarity with Qatar, advocating for the protection of regional maritime interests and the absolute necessity of maintaining freedom of navigation. The Ministry highlighted that this incident stands in clear violation of UN Security Council Resolution 2817, which prohibits the disruption of international shipping lanes. Officials further cautioned that using vital waterways like the Strait of Hormuz as leverage for geopolitical or economic coercion is entirely unacceptable and risks further destabilizing the entire region.
