A Guide to Modifying UAE Employment Contracts
If your business needs to update an employee’s salary, job title, or other contractual terms in the UAE, you don’t have to start the hiring process over. The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) provides a streamlined digital system to modify work permits and contracts, ensuring all changes remain compliant with the Federal Decree-Law No. (33) of 2021. It is essential to remember that any modification requires the employee’s explicit written consent; changes made without official MOHRE approval hold no legal standing and could lead to compliance issues for your establishment.
To begin the process, the authorized signatory for your company can submit an application via the official MOHRE website, mobile app, or at authorized service centers. You will need to provide a copy of the updated contract signed by both parties, along with relevant academic certifications or professional licenses depending on the employee’s skill level. While the process typically takes about two days, costs are kept minimal: standard federal fees are AED 50, with optional service center fees capped at AED 72. Once submitted, the ministry reviews the application electronically, and you can track the status through the MOHRE portal or their dedicated customer support channels.
