Beat the Heat: Why Dubai Residents Are Embracing the Mallathon Trend
As temperatures soar across the UAE, many fitness enthusiasts in Dubai are finding a clever way to stay active without battling the intense summer sun: the "Mallathon." This initiative allows residents to walk or run climate-controlled laps inside several major shopping centers starting as early as 6 am. Whether it’s families bonding over a morning exercise routine or solo runners squeezing in a workout before work, the malls have transformed into vibrant community hubs. With the program now extended to three months—running until September 15—participants can enjoy marked tracks at six different locations, including Dubai Mall and Mall of the Emirates, completely free of charge.
The popularity of the Mallathon has surged since its record-breaking debut, which drew 40,000 people and secured a Guinness World Record. This year’s edition has built on that success by adding professional Saturday racing sessions and fostering a genuine sense of community. For many, like amateur runner Muhammad Anshah, these sessions offer a much-needed alternative to monotonous treadmills or the stifling outdoor heat. By combining fitness with a social atmosphere—complete with occasional live music and breakfast options—Dubai’s malls have successfully turned essential errands into an accessible and enjoyable way to maintain a healthy lifestyle throughout the summer.
