EGA Restarts Operations at Al Taweelah Refinery Following Security Breach
Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) has officially restarted alumina production at its Al Taweelah facility in Abu Dhabi, marking a significant recovery following the suspension caused by the Iranian attack on March 28, 2026. The plant is currently scaling up, with expectations to hit 50 percent of its total capacity within the next few days. Company officials anticipate that the refinery will be fully operational by the end of the year, though the specific timeline for reaching maximum output will remain flexible, depending on ongoing supply chain conditions and internal sourcing strategies.
While the refinery works toward full capacity, EGA noted that its aluminium smelting operations remain independent of the refinery's ramp-up schedule. CEO Abdulnasser bin Kalban praised the team's resilience, highlighting the rapid progress made since the facility began producing hydrate—the key precursor for alumina—on June 24. This milestone is a critical step in restoring the site’s status as a premier global hub for aluminium production, underscoring the company's commitment to maintaining its supply chain stability after the regional security disruptions earlier this year.
