Sharjah Announces Major Relief Package for Tourism Sector
The Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority (SEWA) has introduced a comprehensive suite of relief measures designed to strengthen the emirate’s tourism sector. By offering flexible financial solutions, including extended deadlines for utility payments and the waiving of various service fees, the authority aims to bolster the operational sustainability of hotels and tourism-related businesses. This strategic initiative is intended to create a more investor-friendly climate, ensuring that the local tourism industry remains competitive and resilient.
Key highlights of the support program include the ability to pay consumption bills in installments, a three-month waiver on service disconnection penalties, and the option to settle security deposits for new accounts in four separate payments. Furthermore, businesses can benefit from temporary exemptions on plan approval fees, reduced costs for inactive properties, and the suspension of service fees for unoccupied serviced apartments. Dr. Hussein Askar, Director of the Customer Services Department at SEWA, emphasized that these efforts are focused on providing greater operational flexibility to stakeholders, ultimately reinforcing Sharjah’s status as a premier global destination for tourism investment.
