Sharjah Police Intensify Pedestrian Safety Measures to Reduce Road Accidents
To combat a concerning rise in road accidents, Sharjah Police have launched a new initiative to enhance smart monitoring and enforcement across the Eastern and Central regions. Recent data highlighted a troubling trend, with 13 run-over accidents reported out of 60 total traffic incidents in these areas. Officials are now prioritizing pedestrian safety by clamping down on jaywalking and ensuring motorists strictly adhere to traffic rules, particularly when approaching designated crossings.
Brigadier Khalid Al Kai, Director of the Traffic and Patrols Directorate, emphasized that crossing in undesignated areas is a significant life-threatening hazard. In addition to ramping up patrols and awareness campaigns, authorities are utilizing advanced smart surveillance systems to monitor high-traffic zones. Beyond immediate enforcement, the police are working closely with local stakeholders to evaluate the infrastructure, assessing the potential need for more pedestrian bridges and improved crossing facilities to ensure safer mobility for everyone.
