Indian Passport Ranking Drops to 80th Position
The latest edition of the Henley Passport Index reveals that the Indian passport has slipped to the 80th position globally. While this marks a decline from the 75th spot held earlier this year, it is important to note that the mobility score remains stable, with Indian citizens still enjoying visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 56 destinations. Experts clarify that this shift in ranking is largely relative; because passport power is measured against other nations, India’s position can fluctuate if other countries secure new reciprocal travel agreements at a faster rate, regardless of India's own travel reach.
For the vast number of Indians residing in the UAE, this ranking serves as a practical guide for international mobility. While entry to major regions like the US, UK, and the Schengen area still requires advance visa applications, residents in the UAE often benefit from simplified entry procedures for countries like Thailand, Malaysia, Mauritius, and the Maldives. Given that visa regulations are subject to sudden updates, travelers are encouraged to consult official embassy channels or airlines before finalizing their plans to ensure a seamless journey.
