Dubai Streamlines Domestic Worker Visa Process Through Digital Transformation
Hiring a domestic helper in Dubai has become significantly more efficient thanks to a new digital initiative from the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA). By consolidating nine essential services—including employment contracts, insurance, work permits, and residency applications—into a single streamlined platform, the city has successfully reduced the visa process from 11 steps down to just six. This move marks a major victory for the 'Domestic Workers Management' project, which recently earned the Best Digital City Experience award under the Hamdan bin Mohammed Program for Government Services.
Beyond the convenience of cutting required customer visits from six to two, the impact of this digital integration is already substantial. Since its launch, the system has processed over 10,000 transactions, saved residents millions in costs, and significantly reduced paper waste and carbon emissions. Lieutenant General Mohammed Ahmed Al Marri highlighted that this success stems from seamless collaboration between various government entities, setting a new standard for service delivery. As Dubai continues to align with the visionary goals of its leadership, this project serves as a blueprint for creating a more connected and efficient digital future for all residents.
