Abu Dhabi’s E20 Highway Expansion: Boosting Connectivity and Infrastructure
Abu Dhabi has officially unveiled an ambitious plan to upgrade the E20 highway in Khalifa City, a move aimed at streamlining traffic and improving access to Zayed International Airport. The Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) is spearheading the project, which involves widening the road from three to five lanes to accommodate the emirate's rising population and vehicle volume. Complementing this expansion, the development includes the construction of four new bridges and over 10 kilometers of additional ramps and loops, all engineered to eliminate bottlenecks and ensure a smoother commute for residents and travelers alike.
Beyond the roadwork itself, the project reflects a broader commitment to sustainable urban development through significant infrastructure upgrades and aesthetic enhancements. The initiative includes the integration of 1.5 kilometers of new internal roads, eight updated traffic signal junctions, and a comprehensive street lighting system featuring 485 new units. Additionally, the area will see extensive landscaping to boost greenery, alongside the installation of a 62-kilometer stormwater network and a 37-kilometer irrigation system. By prioritizing both structural efficiency and environmental quality, this expansion marks a major step forward in Abu Dhabi’s strategy to modernize its transport network and elevate the overall quality of life in the capital.
