Dubai Brings Communities Together with Second Annual ‘Kharayef Al Rutab’ Date Initiative

Mon, Jul 20, 2026(46d ago)UAE

As the Al Qayz harvest season approaches, the Community Development Authority (CDA) in Dubai is gearing up for the second edition of the ‘Kharayef Al Rutab’ initiative. Carried out under the directives of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, this program celebrates the region’s agricultural wealth by distributing fresh, locally grown dates to over 5,000 families across the emirate. By partnering with national farms and mobilizing 1,000 Emirati volunteers, the campaign not only promotes the sustainable use of local crops but also fosters a deep sense of social solidarity and humanitarian spirit within the community.

Beyond the distribution efforts, the initiative serves as a bridge to Emirati heritage, educating younger generations on the historical and cultural significance of the date palm. Throughout the season, a collaborative effort between the UAE Food Bank, Dubai Municipality, and the Hamdan Bin Mohammed Heritage Center will see dates handed out at various community Majlises, including those in Umm Suqeim, Al Khawaneej, Nad Al Sheba, Al Warqa, and Al Barsha. These gatherings will feature a variety of activities designed to honor the traditions of the Qayz season, emphasizing values of generosity and community connection that have defined local culture for generations.
